Weekend Wedding

Clifford Barton’s wedding speciality has always been an entire weekend of celebration, enabling our couples to bring together a large group of their favourite people to celebrate their union over 3 days and 3 nights.

Between our three historic cottages, nestled around the Medieval farm courtyard, Fingle Love Nest and our 5 bell tents, Clifford Barton can sleep up to 32. There’s also a camp site next door and plenty of other rental accommodation in walking distance.

Friends and family gather to setup for the big day…

Arrive from noon on the Friday with your friends to get things ready for your big day. Swallow Barn’s characterful stone walls, rows of overhead fairy lights, combined with jars of fairy lights and candles, are already in place – so it’s really just table decorations and anything else you want to do to personalise your Reception and Ceremony spaces. There is always a great vibe on the Friday as close friends and family arrive and excitement starts to build. With your nearest and dearest already on site a BBQ is a popular option for the evening, invariably followed by a chill out in the off-grid hot tub.

Congratulations your Wedding Day has arrived!

Our team will help ensure that everything runs smoothly in the preparation of your Ceremony. We’ll meet your photographer and other suppliers and safely park your guests. We’ll meet your Registrars or Celebrant and liaise with them to ensure the schedule is kept on track. If planned, we’ll secretly whisk the Bridal Party in our buggy up to the Willow Arbour – to await your procession to your betrothed.

Once you’re wed, the celebrations can begin!

The Clifford Barton Weddings team can serve you and your guests welcome drinks from our Canoe Bar alongside Bridesmere Lake to enable everyone to meet and mingle whilst enjoying the lakeside whilst your photographer does their thing. The photographer will want to take advantage of all the fantastic photo opportunities around the lake, which presents a welcome chance for some private time with each other, fresh from your vows.

Then stroll back for games and more drinks on the lawn…

There’s lots of green space for guests to mingle over a glass of bubbly and nibbles, play games and chill out before the Wedding Feast. A member of our team will shuttle anyone less mobile in our buggy to and from the Ceremony.

The Wedding Feast…

After some relaxing post-Ceremony socialising, chatting and playing lawn games, typically guests are invited into Swallow Barn to take their seats. The Newlywed couple then make their entrance, to great cheer. Depending on your preferred itinerary, food, drinks, speeches and toasts then normally proceed, over a noisy, bustling, relaxed couple of hours. A playlist of music can provide background accompaniment by plugging into our in-house PA, which includes a microphone ready for speeches. Clifford Barton Weddings staff will keep water jugs topped up on tables as well as replenishing wine bottles and serving toast fizz just before speeches. You are free to choose the caterers of your choice, and we will liaise with them before and during your day to facilitate them providing the best wedding feast possible.

With guests fed and watered it’s time to really time to party!

Whether you have a band, disco or ceilidh, or just your own playlist, Swallow Barn provides a perfect space for your evening celebration. Its elevated stage provides an ideal platform for your entertainment. When your Wedding Feast is over, the Clifford Barton team will remove tables and seating from the front half of the barn to create a large dancefloor area, ready for your first dance and the ensuing hoe-down. A perfect time to cut your cake, have your first dance. Our cocktail hour starting at this time helps get the party going. Outside, festoon, fairy lights and building uplighters provide atmospheric illumination, creating an atmospheric setting to socialise around the fire pit under the stars.

Chilled Sunday

Sundays tend to be very relaxed days, as guests emerge to compare notes and gossip about the previous day’s celebrations. A favourite activity is for the couple and their guests to stroll through Fingle Woods along the River Teign to the Fingle Bridge Inn for lunch and hair of the dog, with perhaps a dip in the river to freshen up. Staying the Sunday night too means you have the whole day and evening to relax and make the most of your time with friends and family and your fabulous wedding weekend.

Our Weekend Wedding package includes:

Use of 3 licensed spaces for the Wedding Ceremony: Bridesmere Bridge, Twix Tw’oaks, and the Corn Barn.
The use of Swallow Barn, the Corn Barn and surrounding areas for your Reception – including lawn games, table tennis, corn hole, table football, giant Jenga and garden furniture.
Stretch Tent with bunting and fairy lights
Festoon lighting and fairy lights on the lawn outside Swallow Barn.
Exclusive access to the ceremonial and reception areas from 12 noon the day before the wedding until 10am on the Monday after the wedding.
We provide and staff a well stocked, reasonably priced pay bar the wedding day, including a Canoe Bar for lakeside post ceremony welcome drink.
All bar glasses,champagne flutes, wine glasses, water glasses and water jugs.
Wedding Planning advice and support throughout the planning stages and co-ordination and support during the wedding weekend.
Off-grid Love Nest for the weekend for the newlyweds.
Exclusive use of accommodation (3 cottages) sleeping 18, a loft room (sleeping 2) and 5 bell tents (sleeping 10) for the weekend – Friday to Monday (charged separately).
An evening in the wood fired off-grid hot tub with fantastic views.
Rustic trestle tables and benches for your reception with chairs for the top table.
Chairs, benches and signing table for your Ceremony.
Firewood for the fire pit and woodburner.
Car parking for your guests.
We offer drinks packages that offer a discount on bar prices which can be pre bought. We can also supply drinks token or a bar tab can be arranged.
If you prefer to bring your own table wine for the Wedding Feast and Fizz for toasts you are welcome to bring your own at a corkage charge of £10 a bottle. We will take delivery of, store, chill and serve your wine/toast fizz

Pricing

For exclusive use of Clifford Barton and its grounds for the Wedding Weekend is £8,750 for 2028 (inclusive of VAT) and £8,000 for 2027.
